Well, this post will be mostly pictures. When you get up close with a multitude of cute, colorful farm animals, you tend to get a little snap happy....well, at least I do anyway!
On Sunday, Brad and I took the kids to the
Franklin County Fair in Malone. It was the last weekend of the fair, and it's been an annual tradition in the area for 168 years. I was expecting an itty bitty country fair, but it was a good size, with lots to do. They have concerts, tractor pulls, 4H competitions, loads of food, amusement rides, game booths, etc....just to name a few.
After getting our tickets, Serenity and I made a beeline for the animal barns. Brad and Strider went with us into the poultry barn, but Strider only lasted 3 minutes before Brad took him out because it was too noisy for him to handle. It was a long barn filled with clucks, quacks, honks, cocka-doodle-doos, gobbles, and lord knows what else! It was every domestic bird imaginable, along with some more "exotic" ones like peacocks and pheasants.

After that was the very smelly, very long cow barn. Serenity got to pet some baby calves and was absolutely in her glory. It's hard not to want to take them home with you, until you remember that some of them grow pretty massive! There were cows of every shape, size and breeds, and Serenity got to see kids her age mucking the stalls. Taking care of your "adorable animal" also means shoveling manure!

Next up were the saddle horse barns (racehorses were kept in a separate building). One of the first horses we got to pet (with permission) was a funny fella named Oscar. It seems Oscar loves to lick people's hands when you go to pet him on the nose. We really enjoyed hanging out with him, and I'm thoroughly convinced that if everyone had an "Oscar", the world would be a better place. He made Serenity and I smile and gave us a story to tell.

We also visited the goat barn and the 4H barn that showcased the projects and artwork of the 4H kids. There were some fun interactive tables for the kids to play with, baby goat yoga, a couple of sheep, and a giant pig that could have probably fed a village.

Serenity and I went back out into the fresher air, and met up with Brad and Strider. It seems Brad and Strider went on a couple of rides together while waiting for us. We all took a lunch break, and Mom (Angie) and Madison arrived at the fair to join us. The sun was a bit hot, and after being there for almost 3 hours, Strider decided he was all done. He wasn't interested in rides or games and just wanted to go back to the hotel. Brad, Mom, Madison and Serenity all stayed at the fair to ride all the rides (wristband day!!) and then some. Strider and I went back to our cool hotel room to chill out, play with Roblox toys, and get some laundry done.
Later that evening , when everyone met back up at the hotel, Mom, Brad and the kids went down to the pool and hot tub, while I typed up the blog and did more laundry. It was a nice way to end the day, but the two days with Mom in Malone was over too quickly. Hopefully, we should see them again in 3 months for Thanksgiving.
Tomorrow's blog (Day 5) is about heading to Jamestown!
