The stars recently aligned, so that we're able to squeeze in a road trip to NY to visit Brad's side of the family for a week. Last time we were there was 8 years ago (when I was pregnant with Serenity), although Brad did go up briefly when his stepdad passed. It's great that we can take a little vacation before the bustle of school starts up again. What's also great is seeing family we don't see often, and the kids can play with some of their cousins. I played with my cousins all the time, when I was growing up, but then we were fortunate that we all lived so close together.

Off we go! |

Peanut! |
We hit the road yesterday morning after we were sure the commuter traffic was gone. We had a cooler full of drinks, snacks, and lunch, so the stops along the way were mostly bathroom breaks. We made excellent time from our house in NC to Scranton, PA in 8.5 hours. I chose Scranton as the stopping point, because as much as our kids are used to long car rides, 8 or 9 hours in the car is a long time. It's a good thing we stopped too, since the last hour or two were peppered with the kids tag-teaming on asking "Are we there yet?" and "How much longer?" every 5 minutes or so. [**Cue the frazzled parent nerves**].
We arrived at the hotel about 5:00pm, and the kids' faces immediately lit up. You would think we were at Disney World or something, with the way these kids react to a hotel. LOL. We checked in, and then went back out to grab lunch down the street at Texas Roadhouse. It was the kids' first time in this restaurant (that they remember), and I am convinced that they would have been happy just having a supper of smashing peanuts out of their shells. As we were leaving, Strider had to pose with the steaks, because it's "just like Minecraft food".

Trying to get this kid to hold still for a photo. LOL. |
When we got back to the hotel the kids and I immediately changed into our bathing suits and swam in the indoor pool, while Brad crashed in bed. The water of the pool was a little cooler than I would have liked it, but it didn't deter the kids at all. We had the pool all to ourselves, and after an hour of the kids having a blast, I got them upstairs to get ready for bed. Swimming is always a great way to get their "wiggles" out, and guarantee they'll go right to sleep!
